Leolin Warbeck has this aggravating bit he does that drives his middle daughter crazy. When he catches Viola deep in thought, he'll sidle up beside her and rap three times on her temple. 'Get out of there,' he'll command, as if her daughter's skull is full of dark fairies that need to be evicted. Leolin doesn't ask to come into her mind, he demands that Viola come out. Unfailingly, to be met with a mundane question that makes her ever more lethargic.
Viola resents being told not to over-worry or overthink. She wants to have every thought a person can have. Try them all on like a new sweater and see which ones fit just right. Aris' resolution suits her. Instead of asking her to ignore her darkest, drabbest thoughts, he is reminding her to take note of all the bright, lovely things scattered in between. It's a novel idea to Viola and she absolutely loves it.
She hums contentedly and dips her chin in a series of quick, excited nods. "I'll write them down," she promises him. How exquisitely thoughtful and gentle Aris has been with her. It'll be her very first entry.
