DEEPLURK'S POLAR PLUNGE

polar plunge @ deeplurk!!!
what's up? It’s a briskly cold February morning and the mist has hardly cleared off the Northern Quarter’s meadows when students start to gather on the shores of Deeplurk Island. Some spots on the lake are still frozen, but the water’s thawed enough that you could hop on in for a shock of cold, which is great news because today is Deeplurk’s Polar Plunge event!

Two great big bonfires have been stoked up on the pebbly shore by Bub and Healer Greatheart and the Heads of House are on hand to make sure everything goes smoothly. Deeplurk’s challenge is all about endurance. How long can you last in icy cold Appalachian Mountain waters?
how this works! Deeplurk’s Polar Plunge starts at 9AM sharp, but people are gathering up well before and the bonfires are lit by 8AM. Most of the jump festivities are done by 9:15 and breakfast is taken in Deeplurk’s Common Room after.

While most students do the plunge in swimming outfits, it's become popular in recent years for jumpers to dress up in silly costumes when they jump in. A teacher might ask you to remove costumes that are too complicated/dangerous/might weigh you down too much, but polar bear onesies, tutus, togas, and silly masks are common costume choices. Did you dress up?

In Character, all students are required to have a second if they want to jump. If you do not have a player character second, a freshman will spot you.

We will RNG how long they stayed in the water, but Healer Greatheart is pulling you out if you’re in there much longer than two minutes you maniacs.

Standbys will wait on Deeplurk’s docks with warm towels and shoes, and are responsible for keeping track of Jumpers’ clothes and getting their jumper back to Deeplurk to get warmed up after.

Standbys cannot participate as jumpers in the plunge.

No one is allowed in the water before the event formally begins.

Jumpers may find themselves affected by cold shock. Your heart will race, the muscles in your digits and limbs will go numb and cease to operate properly. It may be hard for you to dry yourself or lace your shoes when you finally climb out. That’s what your second is for.

Fill out this form and post it to The Jump header!:
NAME: Who’s taking the plunge?
SECOND: Who’s on standby for you? If not a player character, put Freshman.
HOW BADLY DO THEY WANT TO WIN?: 1 - 10
HOW BADLY DO THEY WANT TO DIE?: 1 - 10
HOW MUCH DOES NOT WANTING TO LOOK WEAK IN FRONT OF THEIR PEERS DRIVE THEM TO STAY IN THE WATER?: 1 - 10
ANYTHING ELSE?:

locations! DEEPLURK ISLE: BEFORE: Crowds are gathered for the Jump. Whether you're helping, leaping or watching this ridiculous display, the energy this morning is contagious and a buzz seems to fill their air. There are bonfires flanking the shore of Lake Peckenpaugh, but the cold is piercing out on the docks. Get yourself psyched up for freezing half to death!

THE JUMP: At the sound of Healer Greatheart’s whistle, it’s time to get to jumping! That water is freezing cold. Wow, this was a terrible idea! Post your forms to this header.

ON THE SHORE: AUDIENCE: Spectators can’t crowd the docks, but they can stand back warm by the bonfires and watch their peers freeze themselves.

DEEPLURK COMMON ROOM: WARMING UP: Mr. Hobgood’s prepped an impressive breakfast in the Deeplurk Common Room kitchen. Hot chocolate, hot cider and coffee join the typical breakfast drink options today. Food-wise, Hobgood’s usual exciting and unusual fare is on the menu today, all of it warm and delicious. There’s plenty of room in here to plop down and feast. It’s a great way to keep going after a chilly start to your day.
