FEBRUARY IN FILM CLUB

On the schedule this week is Wes Anderson's sophomore film Rushmore, which Mia has procured in 45mm and is very excited to make you all watch. Unfortunately for her, the reel appears to be defective, and she can't get the movie playing.

A small group of freshman are tasked with finding a replacement film among the club's disorganized and outdated DVD collection. They've selected the 2001 classic Shrek. Mia is extremely displeased about this, but has been soundly outvoted by her classmates. At least it's not the musical?

HOW THIS WORKS

The winner of the discussion gets custody of the club's communally owned Oscar Award. School legend has it this is a real-ass Oscar award and not a replica, but it's missing the engraved plate on the base, so there's no real way of confirming this. You can do absolutely whatever you want to this thing.

"UGGOS! DESERVE! LOVE!" Kermit shouts between claps. Kermit isn't even in Film Club, he just got lost.

"UGGOS! DESERVE! LOVE!!" Howdy joins in, throwing a fist in the air. He is not in Film Club either. "LET! SHREK! SMASH!"

"SHREK ISN'T UGLY!" Willow hollers.

"I'd totally kiss Shrek." Is just a mumbled aside, don't pay attention.

"I'd totally kiss Shrek too!" Willow shouts. Sorry, Audrey.

"WE STAN! A GREEN! KING!" Kermit continues to chant.

"Who's side are you on?"

"SHREK! IS A BISEXUAL! ICON!"

"WATER! BASED! LUBRICANT!" (She's not paying attention to the discussion, but she loves clapping.)

"LUBE! UP! SHREK!"

Mr. Stirling seems to have disassociated.

So Jupiter folds her discussion question prompts sheet up into a paper hat and puts it on his head.

"Uhm, so like, Shrek and Fiona are both ogres, but Donkey totally marries that dragon lady. Which I think means love is like totally blind."

"Or it means they've got good taste and love big women," he adds, holding his hand up to Kermie for a high five.

Kermit fist bumps Howdy's hand instead.

Howdy tries to shake it.

"I thought love was only true in fairy tales," Felicity sings, about forty minutes before the end credit song, "Meant for someone else but not for me!"

Having grown up in a wizarding town, Fiona was unfamiliar with this movie. When the main love interest is introduced, she starts blushing and trying to stifle giggles. She will shoot death glares at anyone who makes a crack about her having green skin.

Armani arrives in all black, wearing sunglasses and a big hat, because he is being inconspicuous but in a sexy undercover spy sort of way. He's not an Official Member of Film Club anymore since dropping it for his student council position late last semester but... he wants to watch movies with his friends!!! Why won't they let him be in all the clubs???

He enters while pushing his very distinctive black pram and sits near the back. Definitely slick!!

When shrek originally came out the local grocery store was giving away tickets if you spent some small amount like 5 dollars and since I was like a freshman/pre-freshman in high school and what the hell else do you do in a small town but buy dumb shit at the grocery store, I wound up seeing Shrek something like 9 times in theaters

IT'S A GOOD FLICK

I got in an argument with my 7th grade teacher over the quality of Shrek.

He didn't like it and I felt the call to defend its Honor.

my shrekperience:
the movie came out when i was 11, and i had already been ruined by the internet (fun fact, i discovered fanfiction.net and rp chatrooms when i was 8; by 11 i was on message board rps and a dedicated everquest player). so there’s a joke in the movie about farquad's tower and how he’s compensating for something that’s one of those twofer jokes, the kids laugh because haha he’s short, the parents laugh because haha dick joke in a kids movie. except i only got the dick joke part, and was horrified that the younger kids around me were laughing at it. like, six year olds were laughing at a dick joke???

i didn’t get that it was a height joke to kids until i was 20.

Are Kermit and Howdy banned from film club and do they wear fake mustaches to get around the ban

they got lost looking for professor ratatat but stayed for the Shrek Discourse

I know nobody cares about this but I mixed up Bottle Rocket and Rushmore. Rushmore is the one Mia wanted to watch. I'm beholden to clarify.
