Whether or not Eddy follows, Ms. Gunzenhauser cuts quickly down three flights of stairs, even sliding down the banister to the first floor of Central Classrooms. Her ballet flats click click click as she makes her way out the front double doors and into the square where the bronze statue of Yalldive Peckenpaugh immediately comes to life. “Ah, you can see again finally, eh? Ya old whooperup!”
“Can it, pigeon toilet,” Ms. Gunzenhauser fires back, hardly paying attention to the heckling, which elicits an offended gasp from the statue. Ms. Gunzenhauser cups her hands to her mouth and hollers, “Tinkerbell!”
Ordinarily this sort of thing doesn’t work. Everyone knows it’s parties that summon the party bug, or wishes shouted across the lake at Deeplurk, but Ms. Gunzenhauser need only call once and within seconds the ground is opening up.
“Z!” Pocket exclaims, bouncing up from the earth. The air seems to warm at her arrival, swirling with a sweet-smelling floral breeze. “How did you—how can you—you remembered! Someone returned a memory? Who did it? Where did you find it? What did you?” It’s difficult to pinpoint just what Pocket is feeling as she rambles, though her changing emotions certainly have an effect on surroundings: trees grow greener, fuller, then darken, the air warms and cools.
Ms. Gunzenhauser lays her hands on the party bug’s shoulders in an effort to slow her down. Heedless of the growing crowd of onlookers, she speaks to Pocket in a hurried but measured tone. “Tink, listen to me. They—I don’t know if they lied, or if they genuinely thought they were right, but those men who told you to look away were wrong. You have to return everything. You have to give it all back to me, to everyone. We have to see. It’s the only way to—”
The ground shakes again, but this time it’s not a magimagicicada joining the reunion. From some hidden spot in the shade, two ropy vines lurch up. They swing and snap wildly, two tendrils of not plant matter but swirling shadow, both bound for Pocket. Thankfully [CHARACTER K] is ready with their wand. A quick Glacius puts an end to both tendrils.
As the icy remains of vines fall to dust around them, Pocket takes one large step back. “No! You see! I can’t. You see him and he grows. You know him and he’s stronger.” Hurt and fear marry on the magimagicicada’s strange, obsidian features. “I have to protect you.”
“Tinkerbell, no,” Ms. Gunzenhauser pleads, but Pocket is already disappearing into the earth. “Ah, shit.” The Charms teacher makes to run off again, but she turns and points at [CHARACTER K]. Zelda Gunzenhauser grasps for composure long enough to say, “Um, nice charmwork, dear. Fifteen points. Thank you.” But she’s running off again as soon as she’s said it, northbound, it seems.

Eddy's not quite sure what he was expecting when he returned Ms. G's memory, but it wasn't this. Seizures had featured in at least a dozen scenarios, so this is definitely preferable, but from the moment she'd told him he needed to remember this, his brain had gone into 'oh, fuck' mode.
Be on your guard. That thing has an end. Ice doesn't always work. They told her wrong. Had to see all of it. Can become, almost flawlessly.
The phrases repeat in his head as he tails after her down the stairs and outdoors, fighting to hold onto them. And if Pocket gives him the slightest bit of notice, guilt is written all over his face when she asks who'd given the memory back. This newest exchange is filed away best as he can while his mind turns over everything that's already been said. And shadow vines. Shadow vines??
"Uh, shit," is all he says to the other gathered students when Ms. Guzenhauser is on the move again, and he sprints after her.
