Maisy follows Audrey at a clip, eager to get a better look at their frozen friends. The way their eyes follow them is super creepy, though. Is it a trick of the light? Maisy's not so sure.
"KERMIE?" she yells, waving her hands in front of Kermit's face. "ARE YOU STUCK IN THERE?"
Kermie doesn't move, frozen in this moment as water laps against the boat. Maybe it is just a trick of the light. The moon was bright that night, it's been known to play tricks.
And then, suddenly, he's not frozen.
In a flash, Kermie throws himself off the boat. He dives under the water like a porpoise, grabs onto Maisy's legs, and tries to yank her down with him.
This time, Audrey's the one who screams. But she's blessedly close, and dives after someone who isn't, cannot be Kermie, trying to latch around his neck and pull him off Maisy.
Audrey (ROLLED 10) gets a good hold on the Kermie-that-isn't-Kermie and he loses his grip on Maisy's legs.
But before there's time to celebrate, he's reaching for Audrey, clawing at her clothes. Not-Kermie (ROLLED 8) grabs onto the back of her dress and starts to drag her down.
Maisy, screaming bloody murder and occasionally getting a mouthful of lake water for her efforts, kicks wildly at Monster Kermit to try to free Audrey from its grasp.
Maisy (ROLLED 4) simply can't kick the monster Kermit free. His grasp on Audrey is just too tight.
The chaos ramps up with another splash. The static Jupiter is gone from the boat. She tries to grab Maisy, but (ROLLED 6) manages to only rake her nails down her legs while she kicks.
A third splash as Felicity jumps into the water. She slides her soda can corsage from her wrist to her fist and starts punching the frauds with her brass aluminum knuckles.
"Fuck you!" she curses underwater and chokes a little bit.
It's hard to punch through water, even with aluminum knucks, and Felicity (ROLLED 3) only catches Monster Kermit's attention.
He grins. Not the kind smile of the real Kermit Creekmore, but a sharp, dangerous grin. The fake Kermit swings out at her and—well, he's a lover, not a fighter. Monster Kermit (ROLLED 1) swings with the hand holding onto Audrey and loses his grip on her.
Trudy decides that because Kermit isn't as tough as Jupiter, this must hold true for their doppelgangers as well, so she decides to go after him first. Taking out the easier of the two so they can gang up on the other one send like a sound strategy. Of course, Trudy isn't the strongest swimmer. And also, her battle plan here is to cuff Kermit with the fuzzy pink handcuffs her burner wand summoned.
In the most romantic move of the night, Trudy manages to cuff Kermie with her soaking wet novelty handcuffs (ROLLED 7), though it remains to be seen whether that will help or hinder.
The stillness above the river is an odd contrast to the thrashing within it. Shouts and growls, flying hands and splashing water. The Jupiter-creature tries to climb on top of Felicity to weigh her down in the water, (ROLLED 6) but it can't seem to get a good enough grip.
Audrey resurfaces and takes a deep gasp of breath. She switches her attentions from Kermie (yes, assuming he's a little weaker, sorry, but Trudy has him cuffed anyway) to the Jupiter-thing. Acting as quickly as she can, she unties her unholy sweatshirt-brick combo from her neck and swings it at the thing that looks like her friend. She does close her eyes. She just wants her to get away, she doesn't want to see the pain.
Felicity hoots in excited support, seeing Audrey's plan come together. Then realizing she might be in the brick-attack radius, starts swimming away, heeled-feet kicking behind her and possibly hitting fake-Joop.
Audrey's brick (ROLLED 9) strikes true, slamming into the Jupiter-thing's skull. The Joop monster can't retaliate (ROLLED 1) before she's slammed back into the boat, crushing the back of her head.
Felicity's feet kicks don't hurt much (ROLLED 3), but they do add insult to injury as the thing that looked like Jupiter starts to dissolve, a pile of ash melting into the water.
Kermit's doppelganger gets a face full of fist (and heartbreak) from Trudy's fist (ROLLED 10), and he slams back into an oar, stuck in midair. Dazed, he stretches one hand out for that golden float Audrey had been headed for earlier... but his hand starts to dissolve into dust before he can reach it.
Audrey, Maisy, Felicity and Trudy have defeated two Pod People!
And suddenly, things are moving again. Not just one thing, but everything. Jupiter and Kermit are back on the boat, splashing down into the water, as the Greentooth River Monster reluctantly swims to their rescue.
The monster grabs the rowboat first and uses it to push at the two floating teenagers. Their protests and shouts mean nothing to the monster as they herd the pair along, flippers slicing through the river water. As they approach the shore, the monster grabs the lip of the boat under the water and flips it right side up, spraying water over the teenagers on the shore.
Peering over the edge of the boat, though, it almost looks like there's a hole there. No—not a hole, an opening, just big enough for some humans to squeeze through. Hopefully it doesn't just lead them underwater again.

"I have a new appreciation for the real Kermit," Trudy replies. She gives a wet pat to Aundrey's shoulder, then heads through the portal back to the real world.
Felicity follows the others back through, silently, her mind still with fake-Kermit. She's been in his shoes before. Giving kisses to people who don't want to kiss back. It sucks.

โ....He was kinda cute, too.โ
