Around campus today

WEDNESDAY, May 27th

A few specific classes are cancelled today: any sessions of Potions, Hermeticism, DADA and Artificing for all years are made free periods for the day.

[UP TO FOUR STUDENTS (claim below)] saw Mr. Berzelius, Ms. Altizer, Dr. Ranui and Mr. Purcell head to the BoMB camp this morning, where they stayed for several hours.

[UP TO TWO STUDENTS (claim below)] later skipped class when they noticed the quartet leaving with a group of BoMB agents and aurors. They followed at a safe distance, out of campus, into town, to Elflock Lanes. The large group disappeared inside and did not return. [CLAIMED: Kermit, Trudy]

Back on campus [CHARACTER A] spots the specialist aurors seeking Pocket at the falls. She never answers their calls.

Over the course of the day, more and more of the residual vines wilt and die all over campus. That sense of safety that has hung over the holler since Pocket's party actually eases to a feeling of normalcy.

In the evening [UP TO THREE CHARACTERS (claim below)] witness the return of the group that went to the bowling alley. They seem jubilant. [CLAIMED: Aristotle, 2 more]

A bit before curfew, a mandatory assembly is called during which Ms. Kwan announces with a great deal of relief that the glyphs put in place to control the plant infestation have been strengthened and the holler can go back to healing.
- All in all, the tone of the assembly is celebratory, though not overly so. Caution is still emphasized.
- All students who have returned memories thus far are named and thanked for their assistance, as the revised and repaired glyph-work would not have been possible without them.
- While some vines may persist, and may still be sentient, no new ones should spring up. If students spot new growth, they should report to staff immediately.
- The BoMB and aurors stationed here will remain through the end of the school year. Over summer break, a full investigation will be launched.
- The magimagicicada are doing well. Just exhausted and in need of rest. We've invited them to prom, though! It'll be their first official appearance in thirty years!
- Curfew restrictions are still in place as we monitor the situation. We'll let everyone know when they're lifted.
- Anyone who brought a Bub & Pepsi talisman with them might notice that at the assembly, it was humming very, very faintly.
After the assembly, students are sent back to their dorms for the evening. Huh. Guess it's time to start planning that prom outfit?

"Hope Pouch doesn't have a date," Mary Grace whispers to her friends, a mischievous grin on her face. Oh, wait, that's how she always looks.

She does not mention the vines. What? The problem is solved, time to think about prom.

This...feels strange. The ward is back up. But the ward was only ever a bandaid. They’d figured that much. The palpable relief doesn’t quite reach Audrey’s own features. Still, though. If it means Pocket gets a break, it can’t be all bad. “What color prom dress would she like.” She murmurs to whoever is near. She figures she owes the bug a big old bag of secondhand finery to choose from. At the very least.

Bandaid, indeed. No word on Pouch's heart. It's not a satisfying conclusion, but it's undeniable that everything feels better. Maybe this time they'd managed to do it right. It's not like Eddy has a clue what Pouch was actually planning to do that night. Still, seems like a thing wasn't where it was meant to be. His expression is neutral during the assembly, a little distant, no different from usual really.

"Black's classic," Eddy opines softly from beside Audrey, "But. Think she prefers rainbow."

The most important takeaway from this assembly for Fred is that people are getting RECOGNITION for doing something that she could do, if she could just figure out who Potty Mouth was. Her reputation as a LOCAL HOMETOWN DARLING is also on the line here.

"Who in town have you heard using foul language?" she demands, entirely seriously, of the person next to her.

“It would be easier to list who I haven’t,” Viola answers without looking up from the journal and scuffed copy of Blood Spells that she has propped one on top of the other against her knees. She drops a pen between the pages to keep her place and closes the book. She wasn’t getting anywhere with it anyway.

Turning toward Fred, she probes in a much lower voice, “What are you really asking?”

Oh, everything's fine now? Cool. Tybalt will take their word for it. He hasn't exactly been tuned in to the investigation, in the first place. He's had other things on his mind, and a not-breakup, a bad last Quidditch game, and getting a B in Hermeticism before Claudia disowns him are all more clear and present dangers. He'll prick up his ears again when things get worse. For now, he's hardly listening.

Until the weird grass thing he found this morning starts humming?

Was the note to listen and see a literal warning to pay attention in class?

Tybalt pulls it out of his pocket and stares. "Ohhhh fuck, this is gonna explode, huh." He drawls out, making absolutely no effort to dispose of it.

"Eeeee," Felicity squeaks at a frequency that probably drives any nearby dogs wild. She immediately holds her cactus needle (humming as well) away from her body, but doesn't think to take it off her neck. She clenches her eyes and waits.

She opens them a few seconds later, very much not dead.

"Huh." She brings the needle next to her ear. "Whatcha trying to tell us?"
