Parade Float Check Ins

Each day that ticks by is another day closer to to the big Homecoming Parade! Students plan and build throughout the week in their free time, assembling impressive flying floats for the parade before the big dance.

All floats are stored in the back of the Artificing Workshop to protect them from any inclement weather. Dr. Ranui does most of the supervising, but the rest of the Heads of House know how he can be. And they occasionally swing by to check on progress and make sure nothing's breaking the rules.

Today, it's Mr. Berzelius peeking in on what students have planned. Why don't you tell us a little bit about what he finds?

How This Works

Just one member from each team needs to respond to the "RESPONSE" header with a description of the current state of their float
- Completely empty floating base is totally acceptable
You will get a bonus to your overall score for checking in. For each additional team member who checks in and describes how they're contributing, you'll get additional points to your final roll, averaged out based on how many team members you have.

You have until Sunday, 10/13 at 11:59PM PST to check in for credit.

If you haven't signed up for a float and would like to participate, there are floats that are open to members. We will also allow players to submit additional floats through this weekend. You just need 4 player characters to qualify as a team!

Mr. Berzelius looks impressed with everything he sees, but in that way where you can't tell if it's sarcastic.

Look, there's a lot of BIG IDEAS going on here. You're gonna be SO IMPRESSED when they actually start building this.

Jupiter has very strong opinions about what the Peculiar Perils aesthetic should be and she's got a staple gun but every time she tries to staple something to the float base, someone stops her.

Kermit is still trying to name gnomes. He wants to make them all nameplates.

Tony typically enjoys supervising but this bunch needs a LOT of hands-on direction. His main contribution is attempting to make sure all these BIG IDEAS are actually feasible while simultaneously supporting Fred's vision.

Audrey is here to be a quiet worker bee, but the peril (haha) in that is that her Method here is to hear one idea, think it's super funny, and do that instead of any work that might actually need to be done.In practice what this means is she's going to make a bunch of gnomes and some gnameplates and ignore structures and themes.

Freya's strengths lie in charms, transfigurations, and ~~an unrealistic idea of what's possible~~ UNSHAKEABLE SELF-BELIEF!! She's already "borrowed" some costumes from Performing Arts and is working on getting them to transform into different outfits on a timed loop. (Never mind that they don't even know who will be on the float... Costumes come first!!)

"Special effects charms are my bitch now," Mary Grace says confidently. The decorations debacle forced her to get real good real fast at sparkling, smoking, shining, shimmering and whatever-the-fuck-else-ing charms. "We're really going for that cornucopia of crap aesthetic."

Uriah's main contribution is that if he falls asleep (he's currently asleep) you can start stacking items on top of him, and like a particularly lazy cat, he will let you.

He's also a good artist when he's awake, but honestly, nothing about this approach really screams FINE ART.

Presley casts duplication charms on a pair of blue sunglasses, and hands them out to his other team members. This is not because he cares about any of your eyeballs. They are just not going to half-ass this garbage aesthetic.

Mary Grace practices putting the sunglasses on and dramatically pulling them off again. Hm. She needs to work a hair flip in there.

The sunglasses land on Uriah's back. He doesn't stir.

Felicity takes some of the confetti she scooped from Zippy-Dip and lays it delicately next to Uriah's face. Like a colorful, shiny pool of drool.

The rest she tosses in the air and lets rain down on everyone.

Wyatt was pretty confident that his biggest contribution was going to be moving boxes, but Mary Grace outpaced him. Now, his job is looking fine in these blue shades. "I get to keep these, right?"

He kneels down to gently place Uriah's glasses on his face, very crookedly.

Cedar's hair is no longer on fire, which is better than the tree they were trying to paint.

"Can our theme be forest fire?" they ask, looking at the damage.

"I'm almost positive I know how to turn this regular fire into non-burning fire," Hawthorne says, patting Cedar's smoldering hair out of habit. If only you all would let him.

"The rules explicitly forbid fire of all kinds," Bijou chirps. It's maybe a stretch but she doesn't exactly trust any of the Quackenbushes to keep a non-burning fire non-burning for very long.

"We ought to be celebrating the town and the school, since it is Homecoming after all." Then she pulls out her copy of Slime and Snogability which features this handsome fella on the cover. "Do you think you could paint him?" Her idea of what exactly the town and school represent might be a little skewed.

Cedar's mouth hangs open, eyebrows perking up as they take in the cover.

"Ya," they say, nodding slightly. "But it's gotta be perkier."

Gideon, who can't really say that he's ever contemplated the inherent snogability of frogs, narrows his eyes at the illustration as it moves and tilts his head sharply to the left. As though a 45 degree change in angle is all that's necessary in order to better comprehend frogman-attractiveness. (He has - a butt? There. Yes.)

"What part of school history's that?"

Scarlett takes a break from leaning against the wall with her arms folded to saunter over and have a look at... a frog with pert buns?

"The fucked up part," she offers, smacking her gum. Really, she's just here to put out fires and provide first aid.

Laszlo arrives with a wagon full of plants. He unloads them, leaves, and returns with another load. And then a third. Should he get a fourth? Is this enough? He's propagated enough plants to fill a boutique garden store in various shades of green. It's fall, so apologetically there aren't many flowers left, but the daisies, chrysanthemums and pansies add some color.

One of the pothos begins abruptly exploding with additional, unnatural growth. Laszlo kicks it very gently, like scolding a child, and it retreats back into its pot for now.

"It's safe," he promises emotionlessly.

Armani arrives with a costume trunk levitating beside him. It follows him when he makes his rounds to greet his friends with hugs and hovers ominously like a stoic guard even as he kneels down to pet the totally safe, totally not sentient plant.

"You just want to grow big and strong, don't you?" he babytalks to the plant.

Of course one costume trunk isn't enough, but don't worry. A second one's coming with Chanel. She floats hers dangerously close to beaning someone in the back of the head, but mercifully does not actually. She rests it on the ground gently, and then sits on it, to guard her secrets. The rapid-grow plant gets eyed in some suspicion, but it retreats, and that's good enough. "And have a starring role." She casts it a fond look, to get on its good side. Just in case.

Eddy, who struggles enough with talking to humans, has nothing to add for the plant. He offers it an uncomfortable look that maybe possibly passes as encouraging. He'll find his way under the float eventually to fiddle with the more magimechanical nuts and bolts of this process, but for now he's resigned to an extensive wardrobe session with the twins.

hey does anyone have any PB suggestions that have a similar look to Sakura Heffron but is actually PB appropriate and not just a model? it's for reasons thanks

i am having a real hard time getting jackity shit to load right now, BUT i was trying to google around and see if reina hardesty had looks aside from Preppy Romantic Rival from Greenhouse Academy. so if your internet works you can probably do the work of confirming or denying that yourself.
