Get That Ax

axecalibur
what's up? Mr. Youngblood’s still looking for that got damn ax of his, and he’s about at his wits end. He’s so fussed about it, he’s even started putting together the quodpot schedule and finalizing the roster, which he has historically only done at literally the very last minute. Thankfully Pax Sweetapple ?saves the day? when she quite literally stumbles on Mr. Youngblood’s ax this morning.

Seems like the ax handle is embedded in a clump of tree roots. No matter how hard Pax pulls, she can’t get the dang thing out. Is Mr. Youngblood sure he just lost this thing?

Mr. Youngblood puts athletic directing on hold to retrieve his ax, but no matter what he tries, that thing won’t budge. To be fair, most of his attempts include fire and swearing at it, but that usually works. When it doesn’t, he sets a challenge for the student body at large:

“Any y’all get that damn ass thing outta that tree, I’ll getcha a prize,” he says. “Points, anything else that tree’s hidin’, I dunno, I'll figure it out—but not my got damned ax, ya hear?”

Well, did ya hear? Anyone and everyone can try their hand at coaxing the tree to give up Axcalibur, so get to work, kids.
how this works! Whosoever pulleth this axe of this root clump is rightwise entitled to the contents of the toolbox also eaten up by this tree.

This is open to all students and not just those taking Outdoor Magic.

Reply to this IC/OOC under the "What'd You Try?" section with what your character attempted to free the ax. The mods will get back to each response with a description of how it went. What happened, if anything.

You can simply list what they tried, or write a narrative of them trying things.

For the first day, you may only make three "What'd You Try?" comments per character. Tomorrow, if the ax still isn't free, you can make another three per character.

Please limit the number of things you attempt in your comment to one maximum. If your character wants to try reading the tree a bedtime story, going at it with a knife, or burning it down, those should be three separate comments. We recommend you wait until you've received your response before posting multiple attempts.

We'll make it clear when the ax has been freed, and let you know what else is hidden in the tree. :)
locations! WHAT'D YOU TRY?: Tell us here what your student tried to free yon ax from a hungry tree. Did they attempt magic, or brute strength? The mods will respond to your attempt to give you a rundown of how it went.

SCENES: A space for scenes. It's raining at Peckenpaugh today. The ground's very muddy and Mr. Youngblood is surly about his ax.

WHAT'D YOU TRY, Bijou?

If Bijou can't figure this one out, she might be stuck here awhile. Sliding and sticking don't seem to be the solution, but what about shrinking? She does remember seeing an illustration once of normally-robust Brent the Ent suffering the ill effects of a cold snap. She hits the roots with a casting of Glacius.

WHAT'D YOU TRY, Bijou?

Bijou brushes some dust off her shoulder and winks to an imaginary camera, ax now released but still magically stuck to her hand for a little bit longer.

All in a day's work for Wren Credible!

Mr. Youngblood won't let her leave his sight until that ax is unstuck from her hand. She looks like she could be in kahoots with that there tree.

Luckily for both of them, Bijou isn't looking to have an ax permanently attached to her hand, no matter how useful that may be down the road fighting the forces of evil! She graciously returns Mr. Youngblood's ax to him (complete with heroic pose and another wink) and not-so-casually hints that this would be a great story for him to recount to Mr. Purcell sometime very soon.
