Xenia beams. "Have you had the cuttlefish kind?" She points definitively (and expectantly) to a bowl, waiting for Eddy to sample one if he hasn't.
She wrinkles her nose playfully at the compliment, then shrugs. "I think it's good Mickey is such a go-getter. She's confident enough to try new things and go for what she really wants. That's good pet parenting."
Is there a little twinge of sarcasm in any of this? Possibly. But it's buried pretty deep.
"Meanwhile," Xen continues more seriously, lowering her voice into a deeper, spookier timbre, "my rat daughter Jellybean isn't allowed at these kinds of events."
Eddy has definitely not had the cuttlefish kind. This changes at Xenia's prompting, and as someone whose palette has been groomed for years on the sort of fare you'd find on a Cracker Barrel menu, it's not too surprising that the face he makes is not immediately appreciative of this new culinary adventure. "It's great." His face tells another story.
Mickey proves at least some of Xenia's point by wrestling the remainder of the cuttlefish chip out of Eddy's hand and munching on it loudly. It's certainly some kind of pet parenting.
"She'd never let me leave her behind," Eddy sighs, as if somehow this teeny tiny bean of a rodent is the boss in this relationship. Maybe she is. "Gonna sneak Jellybean something later..?"
Mickey & Also Eddy I Guess + XDB
