MAGIROBOTICS CLUB ROBO DANCE OFF AND... oh...

magirobotics club robo dance off
what's up? Dr. Ranui wants some good, clean fun. No mayhem, no sentient robots who need to be put down, no setting the entire shed on fire: tonight, Magirobotics Club gets to show off their little mechanical friends without fearing for the safety of everyone around them!

For most of the month, the club has been focusing on movement and getting their robots to obey commands both simple and complex, and preferably to a beat. There’s already music playing when the members filter into the Artificing Shed tonight, and Dr. Ranui greets them from the middle of a miniature disco dance floor, where he and his own boogiebot, Beatbot, are warming up. He shows off how Beatbot can play just about any song you can imagine while simultaneously busting some sick moves, but the four freshmen recruited to judge the contest give him straight 1s. He sputters and sparks a little at the low score, but otherwise keeps right on playing. What a good omen!
how this works! Magirobotics Club students can check using the form under the DANCE-OFF header. A panel of four freshmen judges will score their bot's boogieing! We'll announce a winner later.

Students who are not magirobotics club members are welcome to come watch, but only Magirobotics Club members may enter the contest. Artificing students, in particular, were made aware that the contest would be happening.

Oh...and...I guess something happened... Maybe you should go check out that header to find out...
locations! DANCE-OFF: It's time to break it down, bots! Magirobotics Club members, post your forms here!

THE ARTIFICING SHED: The shed's been cleared of its usual clutter. In the very center of the room a tiny wooden dance floor has been set up. A panel of freshmen judges sits to one side, and on the other, there's room for the audience to watch. Dr. Ranui stands with his wand at the ready, in case any fires need to be put out. Want to thread hyping your bots up before their debut? Or maybe you're part of the peanut gallery watching the display? You can thread about it here!

FATAL EXCEPTION ERROR: SOMETHING WENT WRONG...: Oh—oh no...

DANCE-OFF: Hawthorne & Pokey

[personal profile] artistree 2019-11-20 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Name: Hawthorne Quackenbush
Robot: Pokey
Music Selection: He's got some Reel Big Fish going for his skanking Hokey Pokey Ska Bot.
How’d They Dance?: Pokey actually manages a pretty convincing hokey pokey, but eventually the bot starts kicking a little too much. It works for a second, since it matches the musical selection, but he proves a little hard to stop and kicks Hawthorne's shin pretty hard before he stops.
Anything else?: Nope!

DANCE-OFF: Eddy & Mickey II

[personal profile] quidditched 2019-11-20 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Name: Eddy Waxweiler
Robot: Mickey ...... II
Music Selection: Oh, music. My forever nemesis. A quick and anxious Google search landed me on this which feels appropriate for the day!
How’d They Dance?: A very ambitious attempt at breakdancing was made, considering we'd only made it to head bobbing a couple weeks ago. There's also an arabesque here and a pirouette there, because Eddy's 100% trusting in Chanel's knowledge of All Things Dance. So. Maybe the genres mix somehow. The mousebot seems to spin well. Like, really really well. Maybe a little too well. Yikes.
Anything else?: Oh. Well. This exists.

DANCE-OFF: Cedar & Eucalyptus

[personal profile] circuitree 2019-11-21 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
Name: Cedar Quackenbush
Robot: Eucalyptus
Music Selection: They choreographed a great line dance to Achey Breaky Heart.
How’d They Dance?: Eukie doesn't dance. The song depresses Eukie, who curls all six of her legs under her and rocks back and forth while country music plays in the background.
Anything else?: this game is actually about the robot uprising

DANCE-OFF: Ramona & Nikephorus

[personal profile] lockit 2019-11-21 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
Name: Ramona
Robot: This dog-like robot is named after ancient Grecian witch, hex pioneer & noted lesbian Nikephorus
Music Selection: It's Green Day
How’d They Dance?: Ramona never got this thing properly dancing, so it mostly just wiggles its robot butt. Every now and then it throws in one of these and it approximately matches the rhythm of the music. What more did you want from her?
Anything else?:

DANCE-OFF: Willow and Sharkira

[personal profile] pageantree 2019-11-21 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
Name: Willow Quackenbush
Robot: Sharkira
Music Selection: Hips Don't Lie
How’d They Dance?: Hips don't lie, but they DO shake until they start to smoke and eventually give up with a sprung-spring sound
Anything else?:

DANCE-OFF

[personal profile] controltheory 2019-11-21 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Name: Honey
Robot: His name is Twelve and he is a boy
Music Selection: EDM
How’d They Dance?: Twelve is predominantly spherical and so most of his "dancing" is just zooming around and spinning in time to the music. It does this very well, but whether or not it counts as dancing is up for significant debate. Honey seems to think it suffices just fine.
Anything else?: unrelated but my mom is threatening to sue me for grandparents' rights and custody of my cat bc she doesn't like that he has an "undignified" name
