GILLYBALL PICKUP SIGN UPS

The water's warming up so let's play some motherfucking Gillyball. If you played the last couple years, you know how it goes. But if you're new, feel free to join in.

Gillyball is a Mermish contact sport. Think underwater rugby, but the playing field is in a spherical barrier. It usually involves a lot more bloodsport but since y'all are land dwellers who ain't used to it we gotta play by some modified rules.

1. No clawing and biting to try to draw blood. Your teeth and nails ain't that sharp, though. Elbowing is fine. Kicking is fine. Throwing a ball at someone's face is fine. That ain't your thing, though?

We got a Guppy badge for you. Bettas play by regular rules. Full contact with other Bettas. But Guppies can't attack or be attacked. Don't even try to be slick. Ma's got better eye sight than you down there and she catches everything. Your ass is gonna get benched.

2. No wands on the field. None of that wandless magic either.

3. You're gonna be horfing down some Gillyweed so go ahead and prepare yourself for that now. On top of that, you're getting a Bubble Head Charm. For safety. You also gotta wear a wetsuit. 65 degrees doesn't seem cold til it's

4. My ma's the ref. Treat her with respect or I'll beat your fucking ass to a pulp, got it? That's a rule.



Ma wants to come in to hold a practice session on Thursday so y'all can get comfortable breathing and moving underwater before the actual game. It ain't that hard once you get used to it.

how this works

Gillyball is to Mermaids as Quidditch is to Wizards. It's a sport similar to water polo, but fully underwater. If you're familiar with FFX, it's basically Blitzball. Goalies are going to be NPC'd because that role sucks from a player standpoint and also I don't want to figure out how to RNG it.

I'd like to add a magitechnical grindylow as a randomized bludger-esque surprise element to get in players' way but I'm still trying to figure out basic mechanics on my spreadsheet so UHH WE'LL SEE.
