Claudia is here because tomorrow (today) is her birthday and she can imagine no better birthday present than death. She will at least appear to take things very seriously when they all approach the spirit board but if things get ~sPoOkY~ she's absolutely gonna get giggly and it's annoying.
Also up for exploratory behavior. Actively courting death is the only way to go.
Mary Grace also might be here depending on how much the common sense quotient needs to be dragged down.
whether or not he was actually invited, armani invited himself bc he got the letter and wants to investigate too!!! he will die of fomo if he doesn't go!!!
aaaaaaaaaa ty I’m so excited I adore seances Atlas is tagging along to search the train after he invited himself! Tybalt promised to help with this and will be happy they’re doing patroni, a skill he does have, otherwise he’s waAy out of his league here
Aris is here because he told Viola he'd be here and he's keen to help out! He's...sure it'll be fine!! He'll be participating in the seance.
Merlin might tag along depending on who else attends. He's not that interested in a seance, but wouldn't mind checking out the area and making sure his friends don't die. And Zadie will busy studying. Seance? :| No Thank you.
Felicity (and MANY OTHERS) got a letter from Mr. Rex Mothman and will be investigating around the old train car. She can't won't be casting a patronus, so she'll probably join the seance instead. She's toootally unafraid but would love an investigating buddy 😎
Lionel has complicated feelings about all of this, but he's not not going to be there. He'll start by casting a patronus and watching the events carefully. But he may join in -- or try to intervene -- depending on how things go...
NAME: Aristotle Ahn PATRONUS:Toucan! WHAT MEMORY DO THEY USE?: Being back in Pittsburgh for the school trip! Going home but having his friends and classmates there too? That was the best! Plus...thinking about the city is nice break from this spooky forest full of bugs and stuff. ANYTHING ELSE?: Nope! So enjoy this instead.
Eddy is Curious about LQ and all other Weird Shit happening this year so he will be skulking about. He can't cast a patronus, but will quietly sit at the spirit board assuming no one chases him away.
NAME: Armani!! PATRONUS: None ;( WHAT MEMORY DO THEY USE?: The euphoria of being cute and gay. ANYTHING ELSE?: Everyone else was doing it and he felt left out.
"I got a sketchbook and set of markers for Lionel and some M&Ms for the train car offering," he tells whomever's listening, sounding a bit anxious. "Do you think that's enough? I couldn't afford a whole set of Copics but Prismacolor's probably okay, right?"
I'M AWAKE. I need to get quidditch up. ughhhh time
Jupiter is here running errands for Mothson, and she might pop in to ask a few seance questions, too. She can't cast a patronus but she knows how to use a mall ninja sword so watch the fuck out vines.
Adrian is here to cast a patronus.
Hawthorne is decidedly NOT here, and Winter is Investigating the nature of Ms. Treetops' disappearance.
INVESTIGATING THE IRON HORSE: Armani, Claudia (still probably open++?)
"Oh, um, I just brought this," Claudia holds up a bag of kale, unopened and directly from the Dis n Dat. "It's like nature's candy, so I'm sure together it's enough."
She'd actually thought they were trying to tick off the train demon to get them to possess one of them and follow everyone home. A smart plan, and by all accounts one that definitely won't get anyone killed. But if that's not the plan she's willing to pivot.
Honestly any of my kids could be here if you want them??? I'm probably mostly just going to lurk because man lockdown has made me like half of a human being, what is time, what are brain cells???
[This is a description of the area. You do not have to reply to this header, in particular. We just wanted to provide an idea of what kids are looking at.]
The old train car, or the iron horse as the Lepidopterite Rex had called it, is an old, old spot in the holler. It's a story told to freshmen in their first weeks at the school to spook them. Something lives here, and it will follow you home. Every student's heard the story, but not all those who have gone looking have been lucky enough to find it. Fate conspires to aid the students of Peckenpaugh tonight, however.
Watch your step! The dense brush of the far Western Quarter gives way to a sudden steep hill loosely covered in moss and clovers. The crumbling remains of a cement staircase and rusted out iron railing lead down into the small ravine, though they're hardly safer than just sliding on down there, yourself.
It's barely ten feet lower but the air here is cooler, damper. You get the distinct feeling that you are being watched. There's no missing the old train car — a bit newer looking than you might expect, given how old the rumor apparently is. The tracks this graffiti-tagged passenger car rests on are eaten away by moss and fungus. Trees, shrubs and other plants grow up between ties, and it's fully rotted away in places. Wherever this railroad track originally went, it's certainly going nowhere now. Where this car was headed, the track winds into the forest for several dozen feet before disappearing, and where it came from is totally covered in dirt.
The car itself, rusted out in places but still mostly whole, sits at an angle, partially sinking into the earth. Somehow, all the windows are still intact. Just outside the train car's single, jammed door is an altar fashioned from the remains of a chain link fence. Atop it sits an oil change pan, and someone has spray painted "CAN-D 4 SAFE-T" on the train car just above it.
Aside from small plants and a few young trees, the area around the train car is free of dense foliage, but not debris. Old bottles of beer and liquor litter the area along with junk and trinkets left behind by visitors. An old set of boxers and a pair of sneakers dangle from the very top of an old railroad sensor. An old lawn chair, a decommissioned bludger and a few Large rocks for seating have been gathered around a fire pit fashioned from an old car wheel. The names of students past are scratched into each stone seat. Even with the mess, there's plenty of space for a crowd to set up shop for a small party or perhaps a seance.
