the halloween decorations in elflock are sooo cute!!! i bet it looks even more amazing at night. i really want to go back.

[Known Cicada Wielders]

has anyone noticed any changes in their luck recently?? i've been having some bad luck lately so i thought i'd try burying my cicada in the mud to maybe ??? recharge it ??? since i found it in the mud to begin with and a patch of moss grew over the spot where it was buried. and the cicada shell changed, too. it's not as hard now and when i touch it, it's like... deja vu?? i'm thinking about burying it again to see if maybe it'll [...] hatch or grow or something. i don't know.

Any theories ?

current theory is that they're fossils or in some kind of stasis. ~~you know like in game of thrones with those dragon eggs?~~ i think if we keep trying, we might discover new reactions from them. they've been very reactive to the elements (water, fire, earth so far) but i don't want to rule out day/night cycle until we've tested it.

i think if burying it again doesn't further enhance it, i'm going to try putting it in or on a tree. since they're cicadas? i want to try putting it on the surly stump if i can get close enough.

i had a strange dream at the beginning of the year about a forest being burned down and trees cut to stumps. before the forest was destroyed, there were maple seeds flying and spinning all around me.

Stasis [...] makes a certain amount of sense. Not sure how it connects to the birds, though. Or how this could happen without magical intervention. Or why anyone would bother doing this if there was magical intervention.

We all saw those starlings and then immediately found the shells. That's got to mean something.

i was doing some research on starlings and they seem to be messengers. they were a popular pet because of their ability to mimic sounds and voices and that's how their population grew so out of control. (you probably already knew that but i'm very excited to share because i didn't know they could talk??)

I knew they could mimic sounds enough to 'talk' but the rest is news to me. [...] Should we be thinking of this as a message, then?

maybeeee! in celtic mythology, branwen is being mistreated by her husband so she tames a starling and has it send a message to her brother to send his army to rescue her. not that these starlings' message means anything so dire, but there's definitely stories of them holding important messages.

i guess that's just another mystery to solve, huh?

Naturally.

i know it's frustrating to not know but it's also kind of exciting, i think. we're all connected and brought together by these cicada shells and starlings.
