It's probably all in the tone. You could call someone you liked a humgruffin, make it sound like an endearment. It's cutesy and shit.

Good plan! Everyone likes looking their shiny best. Have you seen pictures of painted Greek statues?? They look so garish, it's crazy.

Yea, they are seriously better unpainted, in my very not humble opinion. But hell, maybe that's what she wants?
