One of the most important outfit decisions BESIDES the first day of school is deciding what to wear for the first party of the school year. It totally sets the tone for the REST of the year!!
"Should I go BIG and drop major hints that I want to be whisked away by an immortal being?" he asks his friends, holding up a hanger with a floral robe, tied neatly at the waist with a pink ribbon. "OR!!" He holds up another hanger with a sheer lace skirt clamped to it. "Should I wear this over my swim bottoms with a crop top and go for Simple Yet Mysterious look that doesn't seem like I'm trying TOO hard and MAYBE I'm just trying to enjoy this party because I have better things to do than plan my nuptials?"
Lionel sits at his computer. He's leaning back in his chair, hands clasped behind his head and not on the keyboard. They haven't been there in a few minutes in fact. The party tonight meant it'd be quieter around here and better for getting work done, but Lionel is finding himself rather unproductive. Scatter brained, unsure where to focus his time and attention.
Jupiter spends an utterly ludicrous amount of time batting around firefly lights until they spell out the word 'DICK' while also all being Thorntrail red. If only she were this meticulous about her school work.
Who planned this party? What were they thinking?? It's in direct conflict with Muggle Magic Club!! But it is the first party of ~Senior Year~ so Fred will just have to not-so-subtley slip a time traveling soda shoppe man into the next episode the The Peculiar Perils by way of apology (again).
Apparently skipping the (second) coolest club in school is enough naughtiness for the moment, because Fred's made a beeline past the alcohol and instead is bobbing a gummy shark up in down in her sprite with the tip of her finger. Creativity never takes a rest, so she quite earnestly asks her neighbor, "So if you were the Harlem Globetrotters and you'd been body swapped with a gang of garden gnomes, where would you bury your hidden treasure?"
Seated by fire with the makings of a s'more, a soda, and a cup full of gummy sharks he had to barter for, Merlin seems less interested in getting shitfaced or fooling around with his classmates at this party than he does in giving himself cavities. But that's pretty par for the course with him. Still, he seems to be in a good mood after yesterday's Quidditch tryouts and he bobs his head subtly to the music, silently singing along with a familiar pop song as he spears his first marshmallow of the night. Time to get cooking!
Even though she hasn't talked to anybody in over five minutes, Audrey's having a lot of fun. The party hums with a soft energy, clearing her head, and leaving her in a contented, dreamy state that has absolutely nothing to do with the half-drink she's indulged in over the course of the evening. Some headaches are worth it, and this is the first party of the year. More than worth it.
Still, she's not in the mood to cross the boundaries too far, today. It's time for a quieter sort of fun. She has her quill and set of magical inks out next to her, the ones designed to go just beneath the skin, but wash off in a few days. She's doodling again, but it's not because of a dream this time. Just a river around her own ankle. Sometimes it's nice to commemorate good times, too. If anyone interrupts her, she'll likely just hold the quill up to their skin in offering. The memories are her contribution, here.
Armed with fish-themed Jello shots and a pilfered inner tube, Fitz plops down by the netting fence. It's not like him to wallow, alone, on the fringes of a party — but he's intent on... something.
Until the fish in front of him glows pink, he hollers "MOTHGARDEN!", and knocks back a Jello shot.
I mean, of course Oliver wore a speedo and a festive tropical shirt to the party. What is he, if not game to look foolish in the name of a laugh? He certainly carries himself as though he dresses this way every day, with a confident, easy smile and an unfaltering gaze that says you laugh, you lose.
For the moment, his presence is less purely a menace as he's standing behind the snack table, sorting through bottles of liquor and non-alcoholic ingredients. When someone approaches, he smiles. "What'll it be?"
When Wyatt appears, he looks a little disoriented and a lot muddy. He has a small piece of fabric in hand and he uses it to dab the mud off his face haphazardly. He still looks like he started pre-gaming and fell down the river bank. "I love Pocket," he announces, unprompted.
Zadie is never entirely certain what to do with herself at parties, usually opting just show up and let her friends tell her what she ought to be doing or find a more confident socializer to shadow. She hasn't managed that so far. But she has managed to acquire a large mason jar full of 'river water' and two bright blue jello shots and she lingers near the bonfire holding them awkwardly. Was she supposed to drink them? Or pass them out? Or hold onto them for the drunk sophomore that had first pushed them into her hands? She's not sure.
She glances longingly toward the river and chews at her bottom lip. A nice swim with friends had been the primary draw for her, but now she's...sort of stuck. What a conundrum.
Though it's still early enough for reading light, pickings were apparently slim in the raft department because Eddy's floating near the bank on an inflatable rainbow that doesn't at all match his otherwise head-to-toe black ensemble for the evening. Or maybe head-to-knee would be more appropriate, because he did listen to the advisory about swim attire and his legs are nearly as blindingly white as the plastic cloud he's floating on.
So, maybe hunched up on a rainbow doesn't fit his aesthetic, but it does seem safer than by the fire circle, where any moment someone might decide that reliving embarrassing stories from the 4th grade or letting a bottle dictate who's swapping spit is a good idea. Apparently what isn't embarrassing is reading a copy of The Wanton Wraith inbetween sips from a bottle of cheap alcohol. This boy clearly knows how to party.

Armani has forgone the inflatable coffin in favor of a more authentic drowned corpse experience. He limply floats on his back down the river, beautiful and tragic and gone before his time. Almost as if by magic, his makeup remains pristine. (Okay, so he can't commit to FULL authenticity.)
Whenever he drifts too far down the river, he's carried back toward his classmates by the creature that lurks beneath so he can resume his melodrama safely. So thoughtful!!
Teams of two head out two at a time in row boats to search for 'treasure' marked by a glowing float in the water. Each team has seven minutes to get the job done, and if they fail to find and capture a float, their boat is capsized by The Thing In The River and they are carried safely to shore by their new river monster friend.
HOW IT'S PLAYED
This is a rules lite threading game. Simply get your thread to six replies total (3 from each team member) and you can be eligible to win.
Once you've hit 6 replies, you can either claim your prize (a set of emoji stamps for your journal) or request an RNG roll from the mods to see if you made it. Just head down to the OOC Chatter section to ask for a roll.
You can also choose to fail. Failure is always an option!
Claim a prompt from the volunteer slots if you'd like a little extra flavor for your run.
If your boat did capsize, please assume the Greentooth River Monster(s??) got your kids safely back to shore.
"I SEE IT!" Kermit shouts, pointing to a floating log that is definitely not the treasure they're supposed to be looking for. "Or is that it??" That's some trash that needs to get out of this river actually. "OH OR IS IT THAT?" That one's just his reflection.
The rowboat creaks ominously under Tony's weight as he adjusts and spreads his legs in a wide V, feet pressed against the chipping wood on either side. He stills, yet the high-pitched squeaks continue. "Hope you're ready to get wet."
Living in Wendella has forced Presley to become more nautical than he otherwise would've been growing up in the big city, but he still can't claim to be an expert at boating. If he was smart, he'd ignore this altogether. The cold and damp isn't worth trying to beat his classmates in a race. Falling into the river isn't worth a treasure that's probably some kind of nightmare garbage, knowing Mary Grace and Oliver. He should leave.
Instead, he spots Pax nearby and deliberately hits her in the shoulder with an oar. "Oh, sorry," Presley says, not sounding sorry at all. "Didn't see you there." If he's going down, might as well take her with him.

Armani takes a deep breath, closing his eyes and visualizing the glowing float. He's sitting on his knees at the front end of the row boat, dowsing rods held out to guide them toward victory. "Slight left," he calls back to his sister.
So Cori was a little hesitant to come to the party to begin with, so after a bit, she wanders off and settles down on a beach towel with a soda. It isn't that she isn't having fun, but parties also drain her and she's aware enough to watch what she drinks (it doesn't take much to get her tipsy, plus she's wary of her addictive personality). Besides, sometimes it's fun just to people watch.
Pleeeeasee let me know if we missed anyone for STB or Boat Hunt assignments. We tried to make sure we didn't pair any cousins or anything. WHEW!! FIRST PARTY!!
