MAGIROBOTICS CLUB ROBO DANCE OFF AND... oh...

magirobotics club robo dance off
what's up? Dr. Ranui wants some good, clean fun. No mayhem, no sentient robots who need to be put down, no setting the entire shed on fire: tonight, Magirobotics Club gets to show off their little mechanical friends without fearing for the safety of everyone around them!

For most of the month, the club has been focusing on movement and getting their robots to obey commands both simple and complex, and preferably to a beat. There’s already music playing when the members filter into the Artificing Shed tonight, and Dr. Ranui greets them from the middle of a miniature disco dance floor, where he and his own boogiebot, Beatbot, are warming up. He shows off how Beatbot can play just about any song you can imagine while simultaneously busting some sick moves, but the four freshmen recruited to judge the contest give him straight 1s. He sputters and sparks a little at the low score, but otherwise keeps right on playing. What a good omen!
how this works! Magirobotics Club students can check using the form under the DANCE-OFF header. A panel of four freshmen judges will score their bot's boogieing! We'll announce a winner later.

Students who are not magirobotics club members are welcome to come watch, but only Magirobotics Club members may enter the contest. Artificing students, in particular, were made aware that the contest would be happening.

Oh...and...I guess something happened... Maybe you should go check out that header to find out...
locations! DANCE-OFF: It's time to break it down, bots! Magirobotics Club members, post your forms here!

THE ARTIFICING SHED: The shed's been cleared of its usual clutter. In the very center of the room a tiny wooden dance floor has been set up. A panel of freshmen judges sits to one side, and on the other, there's room for the audience to watch. Dr. Ranui stands with his wand at the ready, in case any fires need to be put out. Want to thread hyping your bots up before their debut? Or maybe you're part of the peanut gallery watching the display? You can thread about it here!

FATAL EXCEPTION ERROR: SOMETHING WENT WRONG...: Oh—oh no...

THE ARTIFICING SHED: Ramona & Honey

[personal profile] lockit 2019-11-21 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Ramona spends a lot of time around Honey, being that they're roommates and both spend most of their free time in the Artificing workshop. If they weren't largely silent people by nature, Ramona might have gotten sick of her by now. But as it is, Honey's presence at the Magirobotics workbench is approximately equivalent to any given piece of furniture. The usual set-up is all disrupted today, though. Things have been rearranged to make a dance floor. She's in Honey's territory instead of her own workstation. Freshmen are here.

Ramona's not really nervous about the dance-off. She knows what lackluster moves her robot is capable of, and they're not winners. But neither is anyone else on the team, as evidence by their consistently poor performance. Any rhythmic movement at all is a win.

Something else is nagging at her.

"Keep an eye out for thieves," she warns Honey in a stage-whispered aside. There are spare parts scattered all over the worktables, and she can only imagine it must look like a treasure trove to the Muscheron. She's still not over the fact that they stole Dr. Ranui's charge stones last month.

Honey slams an allen wrench down on the work table and it makes a startlingly loud noise in the otherwise quiet space. She doesn't mean to be annoying; the thought of someone stealing from Dr. Ranui just distresses her immensely and she has no better way of expressing that ?emotion. Frankly, she's still not over last month's incident.

"We should catalog," she decides abruptly and you can almost see the little list of priorities she stores in her brain shuffling orders. "So that we know if something goes missing."

THE ARTIFICING SHED: Ramona & Honey... hatch a very bad idea

"We can do that," Ramona says in a way that suggests she think it'd be a waste of time. "But even if we know what we take that's not going to stop them from taking it."

She's also rankled, but a little better at keeping a lid on it than Honey is. Thank all her recent practice quieting her mind in Occlumency class. As Honey stews beside her, she narrows her eyes and surveys the Artificing workshop. The barn is a nightmare, security-wise. Even with Honey's help it'd take her months to even remotely Muscheron-proof it. But the pests seem like they might be capable of learning from their mistakes, and that improves the range of options available to Dr. Ranui's unrequested defense squad.

"What if we set up some traps?" she asks. "Humane traps." Of course.

Honey cocks her head, clearly intrigued. Carefully, she starts to pick up the equipment and scraps in front of her on the bench, clearing out a 2x2 work space for her newest, worst project.

"Is is inhumane if we don't release them?" She asks as she picks up and admires a somehow-menacing pair of pliers.

"Yes," Ramona says. The unfortunately is implied. "Besides, we're doing this to send a message. We have to let them take it back to their friends."

"Communication is key," Honey obviously parrots from early childhood programming, providing unimpeachable proof that public access television benefits kids.

Sort of. She may not have internalized every Everything Bagel Street lesson, because next, she whispers, "I want them to know fear."

"Just a little fear," Ramona agrees, because they're still trying to be humane. She grabs Honey's notepad and flips to a blank page to sketch out a rudimentary live trap. These will only take them an hour to make, and they're pretty innocuous contraptions. "What's good Muscheron bait?" she asks, trying to remember what they'd had in their little illegal shoe train.

"Something shiny," Honey replies, peering over Ramona's shoulder at her first draft blueprint. "Valuable. But not too valuable. In case we do a bad job."
