seance at the ol' iron horse

what's up? It's been an eventful 48 hours. First Lionel Qualls, then Ms. Treetops and a culty flyer, and lastly a letter from the Mothman's son. It's time to get some answers.

Friday night, students head off into the woods beyond Thorntrail, in search of the old abandoned train car. It's not easy -- the forest is a dense maze of flowering trees -- but eventually the students reach their destination. But what now?

"You need to find the iron horse's cart where its path was reclaimed in the woods," Lil Mothman Jr wrote, "There, you seek the one who fled -- not from danger, but from guilt. Tell him the moss is threatened, and he will return. He is bound."

Students fan out and investigate the area. Meanwhile, Viola approaches some of her classmates and asks them to help cleanse the space in preparation for her true purpose tonight: contacting Lionel Qualls. If that's who's really out here...

how this works! ⬥ This is backdated to take place on the evening of Friday, May 1st, although it will be OOCly active y'know... for whenever.

⬥ I'll unfreeze the 'Ask the Spirit Board' section tomorrow at 8PM ET/5PM PT to give a little time to throw a few questions out. Mods will be available for modly interactions from 9PM ET/6PM PT to 10PM ET/7PM PT.

⬥ IC, Viola discussed her plans publicly on the journals but was a bit discerning about who she directly asked to participate. OOC, all characters are welcome!

⬥ Hooligans and jokers will be excluded from the seance itself by Viola but she is not confident enough to really do anything about goofing off among the investigators or onlookers.

⬦ CAST A PATRONUS: Viola may have asked you directly to help cleanse the space for Lionel Qualls or maybe you just noticed everyone else around you suddenly casting and didn't want to feel left out. Either way, were you able to cast your patronus? What memory did you use to help conjure?

⬦ ONLOOKERS: Too chicken to actually put your hands on the planchette? Expressly forbidden from participating by Viola? Got your foot stuck in a hole and missed the start of the seance and it's too late to join now? Whatever the reason, here is a place to scene reactions to the seance without participating directly.

⬦ ASK THE SPIRIT BOARD: Take this seriously! Viola believes strongly in Spiritualism and won't allow anyone who is just for laughs to get their hands on the planchette.

⬦ AFTER THE SEANCE: Well, that was weird. Did you book it home or take a leisurely stroll back to campus? While I'm pretty sure it's not like ... super against the rules to hold seances to contact the deceased child of one of your teachers, you are out past curfew. Did you make it home safely?

This is too much responsibility. Distressed, Viola tries to make eye contact with Armani, Lionel, Trudy, Aris, anyone... ?

"We were sent here by Rex to tell you something..." She looks apologetic. "Should we tell him?"

"Tell him."

Aris hesitates, but gives a small nod of agreement.

"Uhh, yes!"

Felicity was NOT one of the people Viola looked at.

Viola looks like she might throw up. Cool. Dragging a ghost back from the undead against his will. This is not in the Spiritualist handbook.

"Lionel, the moss is threatened."

The planchette is still. Too still. Dead. Absent. And that silence permeates the area. Not a sound, not a chirp, not a snap, not a rustle of leaves.

The temperature drops, cool, cooler, cold, until the gathered students can see each breath they take exhaled as a puff of white steam.

"Um, who's Lionel?" comes a voice from everywhere.

And then, the spirit board begins to shake...
